It is used, among other things, in artistic bookbinding and in the wider field of typography. Its use facilitates preliminary binding work, as well as the preparation of the final product. 

 

The product to be processed (for example book pages) is placed on the (fixed) base of the press and the horizontal screw moves towards the base of a parallel pressure plate in such a way that the pages are compressed between the base and the plate. As a result, the volume of the form to be bound is reduced.
